Using Sound Waves to Treat Essential Tremor
Focused Ultrasound is an incisionless treatment for essential tremor patients performed in an MRI suite.
During the Focused Ultrasound treatment, ultrasound waves pass safely through the skull without incisions. These ultrasound waves are focused on a small spot in the brain (Vim nucleus of the thalamus), considered to be responsible for causing tremor, to create a small lesion. For many patients, the result is immediate tremor improvement in their treated hand with minimal complications.
